6 Simple Tips For Picking Area Rugs

There are so many types of area rugs that it can sometimes throw you for a loop trying to choose one; so, how do you know which styles fits you and your home? This article contains helpful ideas to think about when deciding on an area rug for the home.

Before even starting on the decision making aspect of choosing a rug you must determine the amount of traffic the location of the rug will get.

The more traffic an area gets, the quicker the rug will get worn down; if you are choosing a high-traffic area it would be best to also choose a higher quality rug. If the location is a low-traffic area, then you can choose a rug that perfectly fits your style without worrying so much about the quality and make of the rug.

Ask yourself, “Is the rug going to be the focal point of the room?” If you decide on making the rug the focal point of the room, pick a rug that has a design or pattern on it in order to draw the eye to the rug. Conversely, choose a rug with a plain color or a simple design if your area rug is simply going to be in the background.

There are other things you have to take into consideration if you have pets or children. Having pets means that they can really do damage to the area rug, especially if they decide to make it their home. Take into consideration a stain resistant rug if you have children or pets.

Your budget is a determinant in buying a rug and should always thought about before you start shopping. You don’t want to overspend on an area rug, especially when they come in a variety of prices. Depending on the type of rug you want, or the quality of the rug, you can be set back anywhere from fifty to a few thousand dollars.
Synthetic area rugs might be among your choices if you have a limited budget. You can tell if an area rug is synthetic by looking at the back of the rug. If the fibers are punched through like a carpet instead of hand-knotted then the rug is synthetic.

Though you probably will not get the quality of a wool rug when buying a synthetic one, you will definitely save money on them. If your rugs have to get replaced every other year, you can do so without having to spend that much money on your new rug.

Make sure to leave room between the rug and walls when deciding on how large the rug will be. The last thing you want is an area rug that extends right room’s walls. Instead, you should have an even border between the rug and the wall on all sides.

Take the dining room table for example, if you want a rug under it choose one that is about 4-5 inches larger, than the table itself, on each side. By doing this you will ensure that you have enough room for your chairs and you’ll keep an even border around the walls too.

As long as you know what to look for and, how to pick out the perfect rug for your home,  an area rug can really be a great addition to your home.
