Bedroom Color Choices Guide

Your bedroom is your personal sanctuary, and no matter whether you choose to spend your time there lounging and reading or watching television, it should exude your particular taste and style. Deciding how to choose the right color for a bedroom can be somewhat confusing, and looking at small paint or wallpaper samples in stores is not always the answer. Before choosing colors for a bedroom, take into consideration the following tips. Selecting the right color palette for your bedroom is necessary in order to design a haven of relaxation.

Conveying a Ambience

It is foolhardy to select a color based only on aesthetic appeal. You may end up regretting the color choice later on down the road. It is important to consider the mood the color conveys before investing time and money on wall covering or paint. Color has the power to alter the mood, and in a bedroom the appropriate choice of color is of the utmost importance.

Cooler shades like blue, green and lavender set a relaxing tone, and they are an excellent choice for a bedroom. For a calming effect, choose a light color.

Shades of red are warm and energizing, but they can be a good choice for a bedroom. Rich red wall coverings exude an intimate feel and the best selection when wanting to create a haven for romantic evenings.

Do you wish to wake up feeling energized and ready to start the day? Choose a lemony color of yellow. To make the room feel light and naturally airy, select a light shade of yellow.

Decide if You Want to Change the Look of Visual Space

Remember that the perception of space as well as the mood of your room is affected by your color selection. Does the bedroom lack the size that you require or want? It is a good idea to select wallpaper or paint in a light cool shade. Lend visual height to the ceiling by painting it white, or expand the appearance of the whole area by covering the walls in similar cool light shades. Creating the look of more space is easy when you select the most appropriate color scheme.

Is the bedroom ceiling too high? To bring the ceiling downward visually, select hues that are deep such as deep blue. The darker color will also cover up any defects while making the bedroom feel cozier than ever.

Choose a Color in Current Decor

If you are still confused about what color to choose when decorating a bedroom, look around the room and choose an accent shade that matches drapery, bedding, and flooring. Rooms are usually accessorized according to wall color, and unless you plan to change everything from ceiling to floor, use what you have. By simply selecting the most appropriate shade, the room will have a new look without spending very much money.

Design a Sample Board

To ensure wall coverings or paint are the right choice, invest in a small sample or a single roll of wallpaper rather than enough to complete the entire bedroom. Cover a poster board and look at the large sample in various positions and at different times throughout the day as the natural lighting changes. This will provide a better idea of how the bedroom will look when complete, and you will more than likely end up with a hue that suits your style as well as the mood you want to convey when decorating.
