Why Bother With Wireless Security Video Cameras

Wireless security video cameras are a writer’s dream come true. Not that a writer would necessarily BUY a wireless security video camera (they are writers, after all, and can’t afford to buy anything). But just knowing they exist and are commercially available can advance a lot of stalled story plots. (“Jane was sure Mary was cheating at poker. Sure, Mary was 89 and completely blind, but she was also the best player in Washahomaga County for fifty years. It was time to overthrow this reign of terror. Jane bought a wireless security video camera.”) See what I mean?

More Writing Tips

If you are going to have Jane incorporate a wireless security video camera into her plans to expose Mary as a suspected poker-cheat, you do need to do your homework. Readers are not completely stupid – otherwise they wouldn’t be reading you. Don’t insult their intelligence by making crud up about wireless security video cameras. For example, don’t have Jane smuggle one out of a police station by hiding up a little used bodily orifice when they are commercially available.

Also, you need to know what wireless security cameras can and can’t do. Having Jane’s new wireless security camera walk the dog and clean the kitty litter is again insulting your readers’ intelligence (unless you are specifically writing humorous science fiction, ala Terry Pratchett). Also, you need to know some basic facts about wireless security video cameras. If Jane and Mary live in 1945, when wireless video cameras weren’t invented yet (not officially, anyway) would jerk the rug out from under a reader.

Where To Research

The best place to research is on line. This is the most cost-efficient and biggest library in the world. If you are easily distracted by all of the bright shiny objects on the web, time your research. Or, purposefully borrow someone’s computer. That way you are guaranteed to get down to the business of graduating from Wireless Security Video Cameras 101.

Some sites, like Wikipedia, you need to take with a grain of salt. And if you go to customer review sites, you will need to take a whole bag of potato chips’ worth of salt with you. But even advertisements and websites like www.Homespy.com (I kid you not) will give you the basics.

Don’t spend days and days researching and not actually writing your story. Your best bet would be to write the first draft, and then you know specifically what to fact check. You are supposed to revise and revise, remember?

The Ups And Downs Of A Wireless Security Camera System

I forgot to secure my wireless security camera system to the mounts outside my house so someone stole it. I don’t blame them, wireless security camera systems are expensive and since there are no wires there is nothing to tie it to the house. So I went out and got a new wireless security camera system and this time I secured the cameras to the mounts. I did, however, get a great 20 second video of my old wireless security camera system getting stolen so at least I have some memories from my first system. Let me tell you what I have learned from owning a wireless security camera system.

Wireless security camera systems are great because trying to connect hundreds of yards of cable to a security camera system can be a pain. Some places that you want to put a security camera do not allow you to discretely install cable without major renovations and a wireless security camera system allows cameras to go in those places. I have noticed that having the wireless security camera system outdoors is much easier because of the wireless feature. The notion of digging up my yard to install cable for a security camera system does not appeal to me. I love the look of my wireless security camera system.

Watch The Birdie

Believe it or not birds used to cause havoc with my old security camera system and their partners in crime the squirrels were none to kind to it either. Birds and squirrels love to chew on security camera cable and when that happens you have to install a new cable because I am terrible at splicing. Not to mention that squirrels constantly leaping from the trees to the cables would cause the cables to snap from the cameras as well. Maybe other people do not have the same nature problems that I did but I know that nature is out to get me and that is why my security system is wireless now.

The only drawback to a wireless security camera system is natural, or man made, interference with the picture. Excessive rain storms and even really humid days can cause the cameras to flicker and I am also noticing that other wireless devices can interfere with my picture as well. Wireless routers, cell phones, and even the remote control airplane that the kid next door seems to love to buzz my backyard with all cause interference with my cameras. But all in all I would have to say that I really like being wireless.

Wireless Night Security Camera Has Excellent Night Vision

To help protect properties against loss and people from injury, many companies are turning to video surveillance systems to have a record of any incidents. Many of the components used today include a wireless night security camera capable of recording an image in total darkness through infrared technology. While capable of recording full color images during daylight hours, when lighting is no longer available, the wireless night security camera usually switches to a black and white mode, automatically, able to capture images up to about 90 feet away.

There are numerous applications with such a device that go beyond having a video record of goings on at a property. They can be used to “see” into dark places before a person enters or to locate missing people or pets in the dark. The biggest advantage of the wireless night security camera, other than being able to see at night, is the ease of installation that requires no tools or special equipment.

They are also used during surveillance operations by law enforcement and private investigators using portable digital video recorders to capture images from remote locations. Working from their vehicle a video can be obtained from a distance to be used as evidence without the person using the wireless night security camera being subject to being seen.

Cameras Can Work During Power Outages

A wireless night security camera can remain functional in the event of a power outage as they are power by battery. However, the device on which the images are recorded will also need to be battery powered or else the images cannot be saved. They can still be useful in dark buildings in being able to monitor the image on battery powered video monitors. They can also be used during construction projects before exterior lighting is installed to deter the theft of construction equipment.

Typical wireless night security camera lenses are 4.5 mm, which provides a fairly wide viewing area, and longer lenses tend to lose some of their image quality with any ambient lighting available. Since the usual maximum range in the dark is about 90-feet, a wider lens will not supply any additional benefit.

Keeping watch on remote areas of the property with no lighting and no means of extending wires is made easier, if not just possible, with the use of a wireless night security camera. They can transmit a signal back to the recording device or monitor which can be reviewed in the event of an incident.

Video Security Camera Completes Surveillance System

It has often been noted that the quality of a video surveillance system is only as good as the quality of the video security camera being used. Understand that the cameras used for video surveillance are similar to movie camera and the images they provide need to be clear and clean and preferably in color. In addition to the quality of the video security camera, the size and type of lens being used can make or break the output quality of the recorded image.

For most general applications, an 8mm lens with an automatic aperture on the video security camera is recommended in areas where variable lighting may affect the picture quality. On areas near doors or windows susceptible to changing sunlight conditions, the varifocal lenses adjust to the lighting almost instantaneously insuring a clear image of the area under surveillance. For areas where the lighting does not change, a manual lens can do a great job without the added expense of the automatic lens.

Before buying a video security camera, make sure you understand the purpose it is expected to serve. If it is only to provide an image for monitoring an area, a cheap camera will probably suffice. However, if you expect the video security camera to produce high-quality images if needed to be used for evidence in court, a better quality camera and lens will do a much better job.

Recording Equipment Also Key To Quality Images

Even the best video security camera equipped with the best lenses can be utterly useless if the recording device is substandard. This is especially true when using videocassette tapes, as they will degrade with each subsequent use. Many businesses and private individuals use tapes as opposed to digital video recorders due to the cost, but after about eight to 10 uses, the tapes will need to be replaced.

Additionally, when recording on tape, especially through time-lapse photography on which up to 24-hours on a T-160 tape is possible, the images may appear jumpy as some of the frames are skipped during recording to allow for the extra recording length. The type of video security camera used is irrelevant as the images will jump regardless of the camera quality.

For subversive video surveillance, a pin-hole video security camera can be used. These are often placed through walls or ceilings through which a pinhole is all that is needed to obtain video footage. They can also be disguised in smoke detectors, flower vases and even buttons for hidden surveillance purposes.

The Importance of a Video Camera Security System

There is really nothing more precious and important than the protection of your family and home, and this is where a video camera security system comes into play. By having a proper and fully functioning video camera security system set up in your home, you will be able to keep an eye on your loved ones and your property both while you are home and while you are away.

There are a variety of options that you have when it comes to gadgets and gizmos you can include in your video camera security system, but even though there are a million optional, there are a few pieces that should be considered as necessities.

The Basics

One of the most essential components to any video camera security system is wireless motion sensor, which can be used both inside and outside of the home, and which have sensor mechanisms that allow you to monitor activity from your position in the home. The signal range of these sensors generally ranges anywhere from a few feet to over 5,000 feet, and basically the more you pay the greater range you are going to be offered.

The wireless motion sensors are especially great for one because they are so easy to install and use, but as well because they can be placed anywhere, indoors or outdoors, and some have several different mounts that you can use which allows you to be able to point them at windows or doorways if you want to.

Acoustic sensors are also critical to any video camera security system, and these work by detecting the energy produced by any kind of sound. This means that if there is a burglar attempting to break into your home, if they make even the slightest noise, which is basically impossible to avoid, then you will be alerted by the acoustic sensor.

Shock sensors in these acoustic sensors detect a wavefront of noise to notice any unauthorized presence, and you should typically place these near windows and doors in the home, as these are the most common entryways for criminals. If you are willing to pay a bit more, there are some incredibly advanced acoustic sensor technologies available, and because it is your family and home that you are protecting, it is definitely worth the extra bit of cash.

Creating and maintaining an effective and efficient video camera security system is truly imperative to your family’s safety and the protection of your home and property, and so if it is something you have not completed yet you should definitely get started on it immediately.

A Guide to Security Video Camera Software

Many security video cameras on the market today come with their very own security video camera software, and if they do, it is imperative that you properly install and use this software in order to effectively use your security camera. You will be aware of whether your camera comes with software or not before you buy it, and it will typically be referred to as a ‘computer software security system’.

There are literally hundreds of different choices here, but a few of the security video camera software options presently available are: CSSS Video, Easy CSSS Video, Web Camera Security System, HT WebCam, SoftCab Webcam Spy, Cam Wizard, Informant Video Surveillance Software, Motion Hunter, System Mechanic Professional, ECPSoft MediaStorage, IDpack Plus, iVisit, DOLeye, and StickerCam.

The Process

There are a few steps that are involved in the process of setting up a security video camera software system that you are going to have to be aware of. The first is to select a particular product, and once you have purchased it and brought it home, you can then get started on the installation process.

Any security video camera software system should include detailed instructions for setup in the owner’s manual or instruction guide included with the purchase, and so all you need to do from here is follow these steps carefully to install the software appropriately. Once you have done this, you can begin customizing your security system, and this namely refers to how you will alter the settings to your liking, for instance from color to black and white, or you can change the resolution of the screen.

Updates

Anytime you purchase and install one of these security video camera software systems, it is important to realize and remember that you have to keep checking and installing updates frequently. Otherwise your system will quickly become outdated and will either fail to function at its best or will even shut down completely, just as a computer system would.

You also want to be sure to include various other security measures with this product, such as a motion detector and glassbreak sensor, for instance. Anything that you can do to better protect your family, home and property is definitely worth doing. If you are having troubles here, there are plenty of home security professionals available who are going to be more than willing and able to help you out in the creating and maintaining of your own home security system.

You Don’t Need A Security Camera To Have A Security Camera Yard Sign

One of the great scams of the 1990’s involved making car alarm stickers at home. You’d have to pay for the car alarm sticker making kit and then the company would refuse to pay for the stickers you did make, saying they “did not meet quality standards.” This scam was based on a kernel of truth – that car alarm stickers did seem to deter car thieves. This has also extended to home security systems and security cameras. It is perfectly legal to put a “this home is under 24 hour surveillance” sticker on your door or a security camera yard sign without actually having a security camera.

Where Do You Get Them?

With the advent of desktop publishing, you don’t need to search very far for security door stickers or security camera yard signs. You just make them up yourself. If you don’t want to bother, hire a handyman, out of work carpenter or a hyperactive teenager to make the door sticker or security camera yard sign for you. And, if you go online, you can usually pick up a ready made security camera yard sign for around $25.

You can make up any darn name or logo you’d like. With businesses coming and going like dandelion seeds on the wind, perhaps “Eagle Security” is a brand new security firm you just haven’t heard about yet. Stick them in an obvious place in your yard, on a tree or eyelevel on your gate or door.

Keep Up The Act

If you just get a security camera yard sign and don’t actually get a camera, don’t let anyone else know about it. Letting anyone outside of the family know is really defeating the point. (And if you have a burglary, you can pretty much narrow the suspects down to your family). It’s not usually good to get a security camera yard sign if you have small children, because they are horrible at keeping secrets. Either that, or make up a great big fat lie to your kids. Heck, it’s for their protection. If you tell them about Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy, why not an invisible security camera?

And don’t get a security camera yard sign of any property that is, quite frankly, not worth breaking into. Don’t put any security camera yard signs over any overgrown, collapsed building, for example. And don’t put one up on your YMCA room door. The sign’s words might as well say, “No security system here whatsoever”.

Different Types Of Security Camera Systems

It is a known fact that anything could happen in our lives and when it comes anything, it also means that danger that may disturb the peace in our surroundings and put our lives and the lives of the ones we love in peril. Luckily, we now live in a world where high technology rules and could bring about the convenience or luxury of monitoring the people and their dubious activities without us having to be hassled and probably, the best way in which we could just do that is through security camera systems.

Though there are different kinds of security camera systems, we may somehow be confused as to what would work for us effectively and give the kind of results that we desire. So if you would like to know more about the different kinds of security camera systems just read on and see what would be the best kind that will work for you.

Different Systems

One of the most common security camera systems that we see today is the ones that are connected through the VCR or the one that we call, VCR-based. This type of system run on cameras plugged directly into a VCR that records the video and provides output to a monitor or television set. And when you are buying a camera, you may choose one that could be connected to your existing television or any kind of monitor or one that may come with its own monitor.

Another type of security camera system that is also popular is the PC based system which comes with the software you need to set up your video monitoring, recording, playback, and broadcasting. There are variations of security camera software that is readily available in the market that you could easily install on your computer or you may choose the one that comes with its own.

Also, if you are on the lookout for a great security camera system, another type that you may want to consider is the DVR based system that runs on cameras that connect to a stand-alone digital video recorder or what we call the DVR. They could conveniently be set-up to broadcast through the web or directly to a standard monitor or television for playback.

And lastly, you could have a mix and match security camera system which combines one or two of the mentioned systems but may require a professional to assist you in installing them. When it comes to having a security system on your compound, the sky is the limit and you could be creative to effectively monitor your place.
